  • Program: Annual information and awareness-raising on cautiously crossing railway tracks through brochures, radio and TV spots.

  • Program Objective: To prevent accidents caused by incautious pedestrians and drivers crossing railway tracks.

  • Program Range: Nationwide


The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) initiative has been coordinated by the International Union of Railways (UIC) since 2009, with the support of the global community of railways (CERs, EIM) and organizations such as the Council of the European Transport Safety ( ETSC), the Operation Lifesaver and other road safety organizations to make road users aware of the risks of crossing railway tracks. RSI "Panos Mylonas" has been participating in the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) since 2009.

On 11 June 2020 the 12th edition of ILCAD – the International Level Crossing Awareness Day – will be celebrated under the aegis of the International Union of Railways (UIC). This edition is very special. Even if, because of the Covid-19 outbreak, it had been proposed to postpone the usual launch conference of ILCAD to 2021, UIC and ILCAD partners have decided to keep the worldwide campaign alive in 2020.

On 6 June, the International Union of Railways (UIC), together with various stakeholders from the rail and road sectors, road safety authorities, academia and international institutions, will gather for the 11th International Level Crossing Awareness Day. Following successful previous events in Brussels, Warsaw, Paris, Geneva, Lisbon, Istanbul, Riga, Montreal and Zagreb, this year’s event will be held in Amersfoort, Netherlands, organised jointly by UIC and ProRail, the Dutch railway infrastructure manager.
