The European Day of Courtesy on the road (EDCR) is an innovative awareness-raising campaign aiming at improving the behavior of all road users throughout Europe over time.
An annual pre-campaign of Courtesy on the road invites citizens, schools, companies, governments and other institution to participate in the events and spread messages for Road Safety. The poster is the same for all participants in Europe.
Alongside with this campaign, a European study about "kindness on the road" took place in 12 countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland and Bulgaria. In this study, TNS analyzed the "aggressive behavior on the road" interviewed with 500 people from each country. The results of this study have been presented to the public and the media, in the campaign for the Courtesy on the road from any country on March 20, 2008.
The European Day of Courtesy on the road (EDCR) is based on best practices developed in France by the AFPC 2001 and tested with proven success in Portugal and Belgium in 2007. EDCR campaign was organized in 2008 in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal and Greece.
