RSI in Japan for the Road Safety at the World Scout Jamboree 2015

The Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” travels in Japan for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree 2015 (WSJ) as a partner of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) under the auspices of United Nations Organization. The event will take place from 28th July to 8th August at Yamaguchi, Japan. The Greek mission, consist of selected RSI volunteers, members of the Greek Scout movement, Irish and Polish scouts will carry out road safety workshops and at the same time they will conduct a survey on youths attitudes and behaviors on road safety since road accidents cost the lives of more than 1,24 million people worldwide each year.

In continuation of the RSI’s “Panos Mylonas” successful actions during the last youth gatherings at Sweden 2011 (22nd World Scout Jamboree) and Canada 2013 (14thCanadian MOOT), the Institute will carry out experiential learning workshops also at this year Jamboree that is going to host more than 35.000 Scouts and Rankers 18-25 years old from 164 countries.

The event theme is “a Spirit of Unity” and promotes values like unity, harmony, cooperation, friendship and peace.

The participation of RSI  at the context of the international initiation “Scouting for Global Road Safety” at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan proves the opportunities that exist in order to improve safe transportation of youth through information awareness campaigns and their participation in this effort. The Institute, which is a consultative member on youth information and awareness issues at United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), through this action opens a door to Road Safety embracing world youths for a better life without deaths and injuries on the road.
