
The Road Safety Institute “Panos Mylonas” (RSI – http://www.ioas.gr/) in an effort to contribute with certain actions that could prevent fatalities and serious injuries undertook the initiative of the placement of 22 signs indicating the most dangerous sites on the road Korinthos - Patras.
The Institute carried out the study, the allocation of the most dangerous sites, the design and the installation of the signs or according to European Standards under the consultancy and support of transportation engineers and the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC).
The study which was submitted to the relevant Authorities of the Hellenic Ministry for the Environment Physical Planning & Public Works, was undertaken in line with the Institute’s objectives for the prevention and reduction of traffic accidents in Greece and specifically in this area with an aim to influence drivers behaviour until the construction of the new National Road will be completed in 4 years time.
The placement if the signs was done, according to the following table which indicates the signs’ kilometric position while electronic signs aiming to the reduction of speed of drivers has been placed on the same road.
The project was totally funded by RSI member resources.
