This Easter we drive with safety!
This Easter we drive with safety!
The President, the Board of Directors and Road Safety People (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” are wishing you: HAPPY EASTER WITH HEALTH AND….SAFETY! This Easter we drive with safety!

R.S.I.’s Safety Tips for Safe Holiday Trips

  • Before every journey, thoroughly check that your vehicle meets all safety standards (tire pressure, fluid levels, clutch, brakes etc.).
  • Make sure you carry all necessary in-vehicle emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, warning triangle, first aid kit, reflective vest, flashlight), stored in a location with easy access.
  • Place heavy luggage and large objects in the car trunk, preferably leaning against the rear seat’s back side and secure with rope.
  • Make sure there are no loose objects in the car’s cabin as there is danger of passengers’ injury. Have a good rest and/or a full night’s sleep before you begin your journey.
  • Seat belt use is mandatory for the driver and for all passengers.
  • For the safety of children passengers under 12 years old, the use of special restraints like children car seats and rear seat belts are mandatory, according to their age, height and weight.
  • Tired or not, make regular stops every two hours at Rest Areas or parking spots to restore strength and concentration.
  • Driving behavior reflects our civilization. Keep your patience, always remain calm, do not use the horn and avoid road rage.
  • Use the Emergency Lane in case of a emergency like mechanical problem or health issue, or otherwise asked by Traffic Police and it does not matter if you are just trying to pass someone. Emergency Lane should be clear for ambulances, police cars and fire brigades.
  • Always respect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities. Thus, stop at pedestrians’ junctions and give priority to pedestrians.
  • Do not consume alcohol before or while driving. Also, in case you are on medication which may affect driving, avoid the task altogether. The alternative of designated driver could be a safer choice for everyone.
  • Keep necessary safety distances, respect priority regulations, drive defensively and behave politely -at all times.
  • Always drive at the appropriate speed, according to external conditions and in respect with the Highway Code. Remain calm and stay focused on the road.
  • Turn-off any source of distraction (cell-phone use, loud music, intense discussions etc.) that may lead to a car crash.
  • Motorcycle could be a safe mode of transportation only if the driver and passenger are wearing special equipment.
