Clean Up - Safety Day in Municipality of Nafpaktia Vandalized traffic signs in Nafpaktia “shone” again in the initiative of RSI “Panos Mylonas” “Clean Signs – Safer Roads”

Once again, the Clean Up - Safety Day campaign of the Road Safety Institute (RSI) "Panos Mylonas" with the slogan "Clean Signs - Safer Roads", was a great success. The Action was held with the noble support of GEFYRA SA on Thursday, July 2, 2020, in the Municipality of Nafpaktia, on streets that presented a serious problem of vandalism of road signs. This initiative of the Institute was carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Municipality of Nafpaktia.

This is a series of original and substantial actions, which have been going on successfully for several years, with the aim of raising public awareness and acknowledgement of the dangers posed by vandalized and illegible road signs, which have been "decorated" with paints or stickers. This initiative is in line with the Institute's vision for "a world without traffic accidents" as it aims to actively support responsible and safe driving, to prevent traffic accidents, but also to restore culture and safety on the roads and in the neighborhoods of the country. Similar actions have already taken place in Maroussi, Daphne, Elefsina, Kallithea, Ampelokipi and Serres.

Volunteers and members of the RSI, and sensitized citizens of the area responded to the call of the Road Safety Institute "Panos Mylonas" for the specific initiative. All together started from Farmaki Square at 9 o’clock in the morning, and defying the heat of July, managed to restore 114 heavily vandalized road signs on predefined streets in the area. Specifically, the 35 volunteers from Nafpaktos, Patras, Messologgi, and students with their teachers from Panos schools were divided into 4 groups and having with them the necessary cleaning materials and the appropriate equipment, proceeded to clean the signs from Athens Avenue up to Asklipiou Street. , on Georgiou Athanasiadis Nova Street up to Ethnikis Antistaseos and on Navagachias Navpaktou Street.

Many signs were vandalized or covered with stickers, however, the participants in the action continued and completed their effort with great enthusiasm. At the same time, they recorded the most common problems encountered on the road during the cleaning of signs (demolished and / or tilted signs, signals not well screwed, tree branches that hide the marking, etc.), which will be sent to all competent bodies.

The response of the people of Nafpaktos during this Action was very encouraging. It is particularly important that this initiative continues to bring together more and more public and private sector bodies, as well as active citizens, in order to improve the quality of life in urban centers. Upon completion of the initiative, the volunteers who participated in the action received as a symbolic and special useful gift the reflective vest and the protective hat of the action.

The participation in the Cleaning Actions of the Signs is always carried out under the guidance of the experienced members of RSI and is open to all sensitized citizens in matters of Road Safety.

It is noted that in order to organize the action that took place in an open space, all safety measures and the rules of individual and collective hygiene were taken into account in order to prevent and limit the spread of the new corona, according to current legislation.

Support our effort. ALL TOGETHER for our Road Safety!
Clean-living, we do not vandalize!
