Road Safety Institute to ANA-MPA: Strict traffic measures show positive results

The first data collected following the new, stricter measures implemented by the traffic police are encouraging but do not allow for complacency, the president of the Road Safety Institute "Panos Mylonas" Vasiliki Danelli-Mylona emphasised in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).
More frequent road checks, combined with the implementation of the new Road Traffic Code, seem to have contributed to the improvement of critical indicators, as a significant reduction in fatal road accidents and serious injuries was recorded during the first months of implementing the new legislative framework, Mylona said.
More specifically, she underlined that at a national level, the preliminary data of the European Commission recorded a reduction of 22% in road deaths in Greece in 2025 compared to 2024, while 127 lives were saved. This is one of the most significant reductions in the European Union, second only to Estonia. This development is positive and should be recognised, but it must be evaluated with duration, consistency and scientific documentation, as the data remains preliminary.
