An information & cooperation meeting was held on Wednesday 2 August 2023, between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Road Safety Institute (RSI) "Panos Mylonas". The meeting was held at the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Staikouras, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms. Christina Alexopoulou, and the Secretary General of Transport, Mr. Ioannis Xifaras.

On Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 May, education and road safety experts from Greece, Spain, Italy, and Hungary came together in Athens for the project meeting of the challenging Erasmus+ project, "Safe Future in Mobility: Staying Active and Safe for Our Future in Mobility."

“WALK THE TALK” - A new initiative of the Road Safety Institute (RSI) "Panos Mylonas" in the period of national elections

This weekend, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in cooperation with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), kicked off a pilot programme on road safety for refugees in Greece. The first seminar was launched in cooperation with the Road Safety Institute Panos Mylonas, and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

An event on "Best practices that save lives, enhancing Road Safety" was held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the Region of Central Greece conference hall in Chalkida by the Road Safety Institute (R.S.I) "Panos Mylonas", in collaboration with the Region of Central Greece, the Municipalities of Chalkida and Dirfys-Messapia and the International Organization “Safer Roads Foundation” (S.R.F.) of the United Kingdom.

The 15th Panhellenic Road Safety Week organized by R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas”, in collaboration with the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers (H.I.T.E), with the support of the “HELLENIC ASSOCIATION of TOLL ROAD NETWORK” with the distinctive title “HELLASTRON”, the Alliance for Safety and Culture on the Road “Roads to the Future”, and relative institutions and Organisations, was successfully concluded. This annual set of events, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, spread Road Safety messages across the country and received great public response.

For the 15th consecutive year, Road Safety Institute (R.S.I) “Panos Mylonas” is launching, together with the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers (H.I.T.E), the support of the “HELLENIC ASSOCIATION of TOLL ROAD NETWORK” with the distinctive title “HELLASTRON”, the Alliance for Safety and Culture on the Road “Roads to the Future”, and relative institutions and Organisations, the Panhellenic Road Safety Week, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas” presented the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 to the Permanent Special Committee on Road Safety of the Hellenic Parliament.

Proudly in partnership with the Educational RadioTV & Digital Media department of the Ministry of Education, RSI "Panos Mylonas" presents the Award Ceremony of the 4th Panhellenic Student Contest of Digital Creation for Road Safety, which was supported by the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (EAEE).

The 16th Year anniversary event of R.S.I. "Panos Mylonas" held under the Auspices of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, took place on Thrursday 9th September 2021, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the main message of which was "With a vision, we grow stronger TOGETHER".

Activities held by Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” for the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week (17-23 May) “Streets for Life, #Love30”, campaigning for 30 km/h speed limits in residential areas, were successfully concluded.

Presentation of proposals for Road Safety and delivery of risk maps of the Trans-European Road Network of the country was made at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport by the Institute of Road Safety (IOAS) “Panos Mylonas”. The submitted maps concern the SLAIN project (Saving Lives Assessing and Improving TEN-T Road Network Safety), prepared by the Road Safety Institute “Panos Mylonas” in collaboration with the international organization EuroRAP

The Nationwide Student Contest on Digital Creation for Road Safety, held by the Educational Radiotelevision & Digital Media Department of the Greek Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs and the Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas”, continues for the fourth consecutive year.

At the beginning of every New Year we make the sad report with road crashes and fatalities that took place during the holiday season. Each year, during this period, about 400 traffic incidents are recorded in Greece with 35 deaths and more than 500 people injured.

RSI “Panos Mylonas” takes care of the safe routes of students to and from school, recalling useful tips for parents, students, teachers and drivers. All this useful advice is readily available on the site of the RSI (www.ioas.gr).

The Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas” in collaboration with the Athens International Airport (Α.Ι.A.) "Eleftherios Venizelos", implements for another year the summer informational and awareness campaign for Greek and foreign drivers who visit our country, aiming to keep everyone safe and healthy on the Greek road network.

For a 12th consecutive year, the Road Safety Institute (RSI) "Panos Mylonas", with the valuable presence of its volunteers, organized the summer edition of the action "Night without Accidents", in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department of Chalkida, Volunteer Samaritans Corps, Rescuers and Lifeguards Corps of Chalkida as well as the Greek Scouts of Chalkida. The action took place on Saturday, July 25 at 10 pm, at the bar restaurant ASTERIA PLAGE.

Back to normality, following the withdrawal of the restrictive measures, for COVID-19, the Road Safety Institute (RSI) "Panos Mylonas" continues and successfully implements its certified innovative educational programs - internationally acknowledged as good practices - on road safety issues for employees of companies and officers in the Armed Forces

The Road Safety Institute (RSI) "PANOS MYLONAS" in collaboration with Ellinogermaniki Agogi Schools organizes the 1st European Traffic Safety Education Virtual Summer School for teachers.

On 11 June 2020 the 12th edition of ILCAD – the International Level Crossing Awareness Day – will be celebrated under the aegis of the International Union of Railways (UIC). The 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety was successfully held in Stockholm, Sweden on 19-20 February, 2020, (https://www.roadsafetysweden.com/), where the strategic roadmap on road safety worldwide for the next decade was discussed in order to achieve an ambitious target to reduce road fatalities and serious injuries by 50% by 2030. The conference was hosted by the Swedish Government in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO)

On January 29 2020, in Barcelona, KROS Project partners would like to welcome you to share their experiences and project material, but specifically also to discuss on new methods and tools to support road safety teaching in school among different lessons.

With high response especially from the young people, the Blood Donation event for road casualties was organized by Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas” in collaboration with General Hospital of Nikea-Piraeus “Agios Panteleimon” on Sunday the 24th of November 2019 at Syntagma Metro Station. The purpose of the event was to boost R.S.I. Blood Bank in order to cover blood needs for road victims.

34 cities in Greece sent the message: Alcohol and driving do not match! On Saturday the 19th of October 2019, thousands of drivers and road users in general, all over Greece, were informed about the serious hazards from driving under influence, during the “13th European Night without Accidents” by Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas”.

The conference topic was ‘’Strategy & Good Practices for Road Safety in EU” Conference speakers presented strategy and data on road safety, priorities, programs financing, new technologies & cars new features, training programs and best practices shared between EU countries that will enable to increase Road Safety level between parties involved and meet the EU 2030 target of reducing road deaths and serious injuries by 50%.

A memorandum of cooperation was signed between Scouts of Greece and RSI on road safety issues on Monday 10th of June 2019.

- Tackling urban road safety must be a key priority for the European Union and European countries over the next decade, according to the European Transport Safety Council, authors of a new report.

On 6 June, the International Union of Railways (UIC), together with various stakeholders from the rail and road sectors, road safety authorities, academia and international institutions, will gather for the 11th International Level Crossing Awareness Day. Following successful previous events in Brussels, Warsaw, Paris, Geneva, Lisbon, Istanbul, Riga, Montreal and Zagreb, this year’s event will be held in Amersfoort, Netherlands, organised jointly by UIC and ProRail, the Dutch railway infrastructure manager.

Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” in collaboration with the Safer Roads Foundation (SRF) and the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), in the context of promoting social messages and informing the public on road safety, presented today, Thursday 29 November 2018, the new awareness campaign on the necessity to use the seat belt, both on the front and rear seats of the vehicles.

`With great success and massive participation from young and older people, the campaign of 11th PanHellenic Road Safety Week was completed. A double folded Pan-Hellenic Student Contest of Digital Creation, devoted to Road Safety, is being organized by the Educational Radio-Television of the Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs and the Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas”. Primary students of the country are asked to use their imagination to promote the message, “Taking care on the road!”, while students of Secondary schools will portray their concerns on the subject: “Road Safety is everyone’s Right”.

Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” and the Representation of the European Commission in Greece continue their efforts to raise awareness and improve the numbers of road traffic accidents in Greece, occurring especially during summer time.

Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas” in cooperation with the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) has presented the European Programme, AVENUE (Actions for Vulnerable, Elderly, Novice Drivers and road Users in Europe) for Traffic Safety.

Jamboree is an event in which Scouts, from every corner of the world, participates for two weeks. Every four years they gather in a different country and it constitutes the major event in which tens of thousands of Scouts are meet, live, play and learn together. It addresses Scouts - boys and girls - from 14 up to 17 year-old.

Major Road Safety Events during the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden, with the support of the United Nations and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM)

Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Spain, Luxembourg, Sweden, France and Slovenia have all made reductions of more than 50% in the number of deaths on their roads since 2001.

A new programme begins for Road Safety titled “Scouting and Global Road Safety” which is an initiative of the R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” and the Scouts of Greece in collaboration with Scouting Ireland and Road Safety Authority of Ireland (RSA) and it has been placed under the auspices of the UNECE. The program is included in the action for the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.

The President of RSI "Panos Mylonas" Vassiliki Danelli Mylona following the invitation of Turkish Ministry of Transport and Communication and TUVTURK attended the 4th Stakeholder meeting and Appreciation Award Ceremony for the Traffic Responsibility Action programme in Turkey which was also attended by national agencies and selected international Organizations (6-7 April 2011).

The Road Safety Institute (I.O.AS.) “Panos Mylonas” in the framework of to its mission for the reduction of road accidents and the control of excessive and inappropriate speed that causes the 1/3 of the fatal road accidents, undertook the initiative to conduct a systematic program of speed monitoring and enforcement at the area of East Attica, in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department of Agia Paraskevi being in charge of that particular area.

International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) on 22 June 2010 (Paris/Brussels, 21 June 2010) Despite all the measures taken to indicate the presence of level crossings and make them safe, too many road users and pedestrians are killed or injured at such crossings each year right around the world.

                      How to tackle drink – driving in Greece?

Athens, 20 March 2009 - In a Press Conference that was realized today in Aigli Zappeiou, the Institute of Road Safety (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas”, continuing consequently its effort for the consolidation of responsible mentality for Greek drivers, presented the new initiative “Roads to the Future… Alliance for safety and courtesy on the road”.

266 persons lost their lives, 263 were seriously injured while 763 escaped with slight injuries during the period 2000-2004 on the National Road Korinthos - Patras.
