“Motorcycle Safe Riding” Seminar
Introduced by R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas”
The seminar on “Motorcycle Safe Riding” including both a theoretical and a practical part has been met with great interest and enthusiasm from the participants and was successfully completed on Saturday, December 14th.
At the seminar that was organized by the Road Safety Institute “Panos Mylonas” (R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas”) and hosted at the Air Base in Dhekelia participated many observers from the Greek MOTO GUZZI Club, that also allocated the space for the theoretical part of the seminar, employees of the companies that are members of the Alliance for safety and courtesy on the road “Roads to the Future” and employees of other companies that cooperate with R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” in order to train their staff on Road Safety issues. Trainers at the seminar were volunteers of R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” with an extensive experience in safe riding of a motorcycle.
The program mentioned broadens the Institute's efforts to enhance the safety of vulnerable road users, such as motorcycle drivers, and was implemented within the framework of the E.U. funded Program AVENUE for Traffic Safety that R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” is coordinating for 13 organizations in 9 countries.
It has to be noted that even though the motorcyclists represent a small percentage of road users (16.5%) in our country, they represent the tragic 35% of fatal crashes; while for every 1.5 klm. travelled by a motorcyclist, the risk for a motorcycle’s driver to be fatally injured in a traffic incident is by 16 times more possible than that of a driver of another vehicle.
