Scouts around the world are joining hands together this week to strengthen global forces against the number one cause of death for young people, road accidents. Annually, over 1.2 million people die on roads in a cause that can easily be tackled with joined up action.

Τhe Road Safety Institute “Panos Mylonas” as a member of the "European Youth Forum for Road Safety 2013" is hosting a two-day workshop on May 9th and 10th , dedicated to Pedestrians.

The willingness of youth organisations and public authorities to cooperate in order to create a road safety culture among young people in the EU and neighbouring regions was reiterated today at a road safety conference.

Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” and the Representation of the European Commission in Greece continue their efforts to raise awareness and improve the numbers of road traffic accidents in Greece, occurring especially during summer time.

Under the sound of the WRC racing cars’ engines in front of Zappion Conference center in Athens, the staff of RSI “Panos Mylonas” and fifteen volunteers were present for the Ceremonial Start of the 58th Acropolis Rally of the 2012 World Rally Championship (WRC). RSI was there, to educate and sensitize road users who share their passion for racing with the use of AVENUE project’s Mobile NEST and road safety equipment.

Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas” in cooperation with the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) has presented the European Programme, AVENUE (Actions for Vulnerable, Elderly, Novice Drivers and road Users in Europe) for Traffic Safety.

Jamboree is an event in which Scouts, from every corner of the world, participates for two weeks. Every four years they gather in a different country and it constitutes the major event in which tens of thousands of Scouts are meet, live, play and learn together. It addresses Scouts - boys and girls - from 14 up to 17 year-old.

Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Spain, Luxembourg, Sweden, France and Slovenia have all made reductions of more than 50% in the number of deaths on their roads since 2001.

A new programme begins for Road Safety titled “Scouting and Global Road Safety” which is an initiative of the R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” and the Scouts of Greece in collaboration with Scouting Ireland and Road Safety Authority of Ireland (RSA) and it has been placed under the auspices of the UNECE. The program is included in the action for the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.

The President of RSI "Panos Mylonas" Vassiliki Danelli Mylona following the invitation of Turkish Ministry of Transport and Communication and TUVTURK attended the 4th Stakeholder meeting and Appreciation Award Ceremony for the Traffic Responsibility Action programme in Turkey which was also attended by national agencies and selected international Organizations (6-7 April 2011).

The Road Safety Institute (I.O.AS.) “Panos Mylonas” in the framework of to its mission for the reduction of road accidents and the control of excessive and inappropriate speed that causes the 1/3 of the fatal road accidents, undertook the initiative to conduct a systematic program of speed monitoring and enforcement at the area of East Attica, in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department of Agia Paraskevi being in charge of that particular area.
