This year, the “European Mobility Week” (16-22. Sept) concerned the effects and difficulties Europe faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting ways and possibilities for change and improvement after the prevalence of the health crisis, encouraging and stressing sustainable modes of transport in urban settings.

The 16th Year anniversary event of R.S.I. "Panos Mylonas" held under the Auspices of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, took place on Thrursday 9th September 2021, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the main message of which was "With a vision, we grow stronger TOGETHER".

This year marks 16 years since the beginning of Road Safety Institute (RSI) "Panos Mylonas", 16 years of a continuous struggle to raise driver awareness, to educate the youth and to protect life on the streets so that no one has to suffer the loss of a loved one.

On Wednesday 8/9, we were in Zappeion with the simulators of the Institute under the support of Nea Odos & Kentrikis Odos in the context of the parallel events for the Acropolis Rally.

- Covid-19 pandemic travel decrease mainly responsible for a 17% drop in road deaths last year in the EU; - Deaths dropped by 37% in the last ten years – short of the EU target to cut by 50% by 2020; - Greece announced as the winner of the 2021 ETSC Road Safety Performance Index Award – with road deaths down by 54% in ten years;

Health and Safety 4all project educational activities were successfully concluded, two webinars were held on March 30 and May 31. Participants had the opportunity to learn about critical road safety issues during the COVID-19 pandemic from RSI staff and training experts.

Activities held by Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” for the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week (17-23 May) “Streets for Life, #Love30”, campaigning for 30 km/h speed limits in residential areas, were successfully concluded.

Despite the unfavorable conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 14th Panhellenic Road Safety Week – which has now been an institutionalized practice in our country - was successfully held, having had broad appeal, active participation from citizens and organizations, and sent resounding messages.

The SLAIN project (Saving Lives Assessing and Improving TEN-T Road Network Safety) is implemented by the Road Safety Institute (RSI) ‘Panos Mylonas’ in cooperation with the International Organization EuroRAP and partners coming from Italy, Spain, and Croatia. It is co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility 2014-2015, under the consent of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation in Greece.
